CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- One person is dead and another is in the intensive care unit after a head-on collision between the Westmoreland Road exit and the Interstate 64/77 split in Charleston.
Edward Pete Bryant, 48, of Big Chimney, was driving his 1993 Chevrolet S-10 pickup in the southbound lane of I-77 on his way to work at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday when he was struck head-on by a car driven by Angela Renee Walker, 47, of Charleston. Walker was traveling the wrong direction on the interstate, according to Capt. Sean Crosier with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Walker was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra north in the southbound lane when her vehicle struck Bryant's truck, the release states.
Both drivers were taken to CAMC General Hospital, where Bryant was pronounced dead. Walker sustained serious injuries and remained in the ICU at CAMC General Hospital Thursday evening.
Investigators believe alcohol might be involved in the crash and ask anyone with information to contact the sheriff's department at 304-357-0169 and speak with Lt. F.D. Beasley II or Deputy J.L. Lester. Calls can remain anonymous.
