SPENCER, W.Va. -- A Roane County couple is in jail after allegedly allowing their 3-year-old child to fall out a window 15 feet off the ground.
According to a criminal complaint on file in Roane County Magistrate Court, Spencer police went to the home of Lucas and Jamie Taylor, of Barcutt Road, about 9 p.m. May 2 to investigate a 911 call about a child falling out a second-story window.
When they got there, they found Jamie Taylor, 26, kneeling on the ground beside her 3-year-old daughter, according to the complaint. The girl had apparently fallen out a second-story window, 15 feet off the ground.
Jamie Taylor said she and her husband, Lucas Taylor, 27, had been in the house and had no idea anything was wrong until they heard another child screaming and the little girl outside crying, the complaint said.
Police kept the little girl's head still and soothed her until an ambulance could arrive. The complaint said she was complaining of lower back pain. The girl was then taken to a local hospital.
According to the criminal complaint, police found handprints on the windowsill the girl fell out and scratch marks down the side of the building where she had apparently tried to hold on to keep from falling. Police believe the little girl was able to hang on to the windowsill for a while before she had to let go, but have no idea how long she had been hanging there before she fell.
Lucas and Jamie Taylor were each charged with child abuse or neglect resulting in serious bodily injury. They were in the Central Regional Jail today with bond set at $50,000 each.Reach Rusty Marks at rustyma...@wvgazette.com or 304-348-1215.
