SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two people were taken to the hospital after a motorcycle hit a truck on Interstate 64 coming into Charleston on Wednesday morning.
The wreck happened near the Montrose Drive exit shortly before 9:40 a.m.
Sgt. Bob Houck of the South Charleston Police Department said a couple on a three-wheeled motorcycle apparently slammed into the back of a Frontier Communications truck in stop-and-go traffic. "The truck stopped and the motorcycle didn't," Houck said.
A man and a woman riding on the motorcycle were both thrown from the bike and injured. Houck said the woman suffered head trauma, but the man was less seriously injured. Both were taken to a local hospital, but police did not yet release their names.
Eastbound lanes were closed and backed up for several miles after the accident, according to state Division of Highways spokesman Brent Walker. The interstate reopened just before noon.
Houck said he doesn't expect anyone to be cited in the wreck.
