CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Lincoln County man was arrested Thursday and charged with killing a man found dead at his home in Elkview last month.
Steven Michael Randolph, 25, of Sod, is facing a murder charge in the death of David Lemons, 28. Lemons' neighbors discovered his body in his mobile home May 20 on Darlington Lane in Elkview.
Lemons died from multiple blunt force and sharp force injuries, according to an autopsy report.
Witnesses told police they had personally purchased heroin from Lemons on the night before he was found dead, and said that he was known to distribute the drug to multiple individuals in the area, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court following Randolph's arraignment Thursday night.
Randolph and his wife, Joanna Randolph, were the last people seen at Lemons' residence before he was found dead and were staying with him at the time, according to the complaint.
A neighbor told police that he heard a verbal altercation around the time Randolph died, saying that a female voice yelled, "What did you do?"
No drugs were located when police searched Lemons' home. No wallet or other money was found in the victim's home, either.
According to the police report, the Randolphs checked into the Best Way Inn motel in Kanawha City following Lemons' death, and a hotel staffer reported Paige Randolph had said someone died and asked that no one be told that they were staying there.
Bloodstains were found in the couples' vehicle and a recent injury Randolph sustained on his arm matched the altercation scene at Lemons' residence, according to the report.
Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies investigated the incident.
