RIPLEY, W.Va. -- A Jackson County man is in jail after leading State Police on a massive manhunt.
State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous said Joseph Lee Myers, 23, was first arrested near the Jackson County Courthouse on Thursday afternoon after allegedly getting into a fight with a State Police trooper who was trying to break up an argument between Myers and a woman.
Myers was taken to the Ripley State Police detachment, where he allegedly became violent and was able to escape, Baylous said.
Multiple police agencies searched for Myers by air and ground before he was recaptured near the Ripley exit of Interstate 77 on Thursday night, Baylous said.
Myers has been charged with multiple felonies, including domestic battery, obstruction and fleeing. He was in the South Central Regional Jail Friday afternoon with bond set at $35,000.
The trooper allegedly attacked by Myers was treated and released from Jackson Memorial Hospital.
