MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A Morgantown man has been sentenced to 43 years in prison in connection with the 2011 slaying of a Fairmont woman.
Kevin Utter entered Alford pleas in May to second-degree murder and arson. That means he didn't admit guilt but acknowledged there's enough evidence for conviction.
WBOY-TV reports that Utter received a 40-year sentence on the murder charge and a three-year sentence on the arson charge Monday. Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Susan Tucker ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.
Utter was charged with killing 33-year-old Christina Terry. The two had met at a Morgantown bar.
Terry's body was found near University High School in October 2011.
