FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- U.S. Marshals arrested a jail inmate who swapped identification bracelets and clothing with another inmate to be released on home confinement.
State Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety spokesman Lawrence Messina says Kevin Lee Gregory of Fairmont is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail on Thursday.
North Central Regional Jail inmate Bruce Clayton was scheduled to be in court in Marion County. But Gregory appeared in court instead of Clayton, bypassed a reporting center after his appearance and walked out of the courthouse in street clothes, Messina says.
Gregory was arrested in June as a fugitive of justice from Virginia, where he's accused of failing to register as a sex offender.
