ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- St. Albans police said a custodian brought a loaded gun inside his car while working at Hayes Middle School on Friday.
Daniel T. Turner, 38, of St. Albans, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm on school grounds, a felony.
Kanawha County Board of Education employees received an internal complaint about Turner carrying a gun onto school property while he was working, according to a news release issued by St. Albans Police Capt. James Agee.
School resource office Patrolwoman Sheila McCuskey and a Kanawha County Schools employee confronted Turner when he reported for work at 3 p.m. Friday. Turner admitted to having a loaded gun under his driver's side car seat and gave McCuskey permission to retrieve it, Agee said. He was arrested without incident.
Turner was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, where he later posted bail.
