CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A vehicle struck and killed an elderly woman as she tried to cross the street across from the state Capitol Complex in Charleston Thursday.
The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. in at the intersection of Virginia and Greenbrier streets.
The victim, a black woman whose name has not been released, may have been getting off a bus when she was struck, Lt. C.E. Sisson of the Charleston Police Department said. The woman was carrying luggage and may have been traveling, police say.
Authorities were attempting Thursday to locate the woman's family so that they could be notified.
Except for school buses, motorists are not required to stop for buses that are dropping off passengers, Sisson said.
