Also on hand Friday to thank the band was Kanawha County Sheriff Johnny Rutherford, Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner and Rodney Miller, former Boone County Sheriff and director of the Sheriff's Association.
"It's sad that they sometimes have to risk their lives without protection," Page said. "This is just something we do for fun. For it to help out in such a big way is awesome."
Kelly said the band's members have demonstrated what school officials aim to instill in all students.
"We try to stress character and being a part of something bigger than yourself," the principal said. "This is a great example of that."
"That they have taken it upon themselves, unsolicited, speaks well about these students, their families and the school," McComas said.
"Now, what kind of music do you all play?" he asked them.
"Hard rock," they answered.
"Hard rock," he repeated loudly. "That's just what Sheriff Rutherford and I like."
