BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Buckhannon police want a share of assets seized in a synthetic drugs case.
Federal authorities raided and shut down two stores in Buckhannon and Clarksburg called Hot Stuff Cool Things in 2012. Prosecutors say the stores sold bath salts and other synthetic drugs.
The Buckhannon Police Department is asking to be considered to receive a share of the assets. Police Chief Matt Gregory told WBOY-TV his department assisted in the investigation.
Gregory also said the Buckhannon store never paid business taxes to the city.
The Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force also participated in the investigation and recently received $700,000 from federal authorities. The payment is the first installment of the task force's share of the assets.
