CEREDO, W.Va. -- Russell Hutchinson has responded to thousands of emergency calls, including the 1970 Marshall University plane crash that killed 75 people, during his 59 years at the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department.
Friends and coworkers honored Hutchinson's service to the community Friday night at the Kenova United Methodist Church.
He was recognized for his outstanding service, which started years before the department in Ceredo was even chartered. In 1970, Hutchinson led a group that built a memorial overlook at the Marshall plane crash site. In the decades since, Hutchinson has trained hundreds of young volunteer firefighters.Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department Chief David Caudill gave Hutchinson an award medal and city proclamation during the ceremony.
