OAK HILL, W.Va. -- An Oak Hill woman died after she fell out of her sliding car, which came to rest on top of her on Thursday.
Laura Self, 24, apparently lost traction over ice-covered roadway near 1022 Pea Ridge Road in Oak Hill at approximately 10:15 a.m., Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler said in a news release. Self opened the car door, falling out. The car then came to rest on top of her, killing her instantly, according to the release.
Self was a Fayette County 911 dispatcher and previously worked as a paramedic.
"Fatal accidents are always difficult," Kessler said in the release. "It's particularly difficult when it's one of our own, someone that we work with on a daily basis."
