WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A Liberty man has been charged with first-degree sexual assault after allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old autistic girl.
Justin Matthew Vance, 28, was staying with the parents of the victim when the abuse happened, according to the criminal complaint. Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Lockhart, who has been investigating the case since September, wrote that the victim told medical personnel at Women's and Children's Hospital that she had slept on the couch with Vance and kissed him. The victim was confirmed to be pregnant during a medical exam at Marshall Pediatrics.
The victim told Child Protective Services and a doctor that she did not know what being pregnant meant and did not know what sex was, according to the complaint. The victim also initially denied having sex, but later admitted to it and said her parents were asleep in their bedroom when the incident happened.
The victim is currently in the custody of her aunt.
