Fox News host Greta Van Susteren is calling out Daily Caller owner Tucker Carlson as a “pig” and “purveyor of smut” for prominently posting a story with the headline: “Mike Tyson: Sarah Palin met the ‘womb shifter’.”

Writing on her blog, the Fox News host expresses seething outrage at how Carlson - who she refers to as her “friend” - treated a Las Vegas radio interview with Tyson in which the former heavyweight champ used crude and sexually offensive language in talking about Sarah Palin and the recent allegation that she had sex many years ago with past NBA star Glen Rice.

Van Susteren said the Daily Caller’s story and headline about Tyson’s interview amounts to “violence against women.”

“To show you how bad it is, however, I have put a screen grab up of the front page reference on Tucker’s website,” Van Susteren tells her readers on her blog, adding, “I am deliberately not putting the link up since I am not going to help Tucker be a pig…he apparently can do it all himself without my help.”

Van Susteren, whose protectiveness over the former Alaska governor and Fox commentator is well-known, says Tyson’s sexually crude comments are perhaps “expected” but adds that Carlson “should have used judgment, a sense of decency and not promoted this denigration.”

Van Susteren says: “I am suspicious his [Carlson’s] website is not doing well and this is one quick last breath to create buzz to keep it afloat.”

In her almost 900-word blog post published Sunday morning, Van Susteren explained that she emailed Carlson about the story and headline on his website and “felt some urge to protect him.” But 24 hours later, when she still hadn’t heard back from him, Van Susteren called on Carlson to take down the story and “fire anyone who used this bad judgment and was part of posting it.”

By Monday morning, the story was no longer featured on The Daily Caller’s homepage as it had been over the weekend.

An “editor’s note” is attached to the top of the story that reads:

“Many of the quotes in this story are offensive, indeed repulsive, and not suitable for younger readers or those who are easily shocked. They are also newsworthy. Had Tyson used this language to attack virtually any other person in public life, he’d be vilified on the front page of the New York Times. But you won’t read these quotes in the Times. We believe they deserve public scrutiny and condemnation.”
