LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- At least two of three close races in Greenbrier County won't change, despite officials discovering hundreds of uncounted votes.
A canvass on Wednesday added 411 votes that hadn't been counted last week to earlier totals, giving secure victories to Republican sheriff candidate Jim Childers and a referendum that would allow gambling at The Greenbrier resort.
Preliminary vote totals provided by the Greenbrier County Commission show that even with as many as 250 late absentee and provisional ballots left to be counted, the results of those races won't change.
There's a slim chance that a vote authorizing a $40 million school bond levy in the county could reverse, although the margin stood at 189 votes.
Officials blamed the uncounted votes on human error.
