CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant said only voters, poll workers, employees of the County Clerk's Office, employees of the Secretary of State's Office, and employees of the county prosecutor's office are allowed inside the polling place.

Tennant apparently made the statement to refute rumors that U.N. Election Observers would be allowed inside polling places on Election Day.

Tennant believes some people might have misinterpreted visits last month from members of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. The United States is a founding member of that organization. Members of the organization came to West Virginia to observe facets of the election process, including poll worker training. Those election observers are now in Ohio.

Tennant added that if voters witness something they believe to be a violation of election law, they are urged to call the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office, at 304-558-6000 or 866-767-8683.
