CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin is appointing a Martinsburg attorney to fill the vacancy on the state's circuit court bench.
The governor's office said Friday that Michael Douglas Lorensen was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Judge Gina Groh. She was appointed as a judge for West Virginia's northern federal court district in March.
Lorensen will preside in the state's 23rd Judicial Circuit, which includes Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties.
He began his career at the Dominion Post in Morgantown before returning to West Virginia University to earn his law degree.
Lorensen is currently a partner at Bowles Rice in Martinsburg. He serves on the West Virginia Judicial Hearing Board, which hears contested cases of judicial misconduct and submits recommendations to the state Supreme Court of Appeals.
