Deadline nears for W.Va. election recount requests
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia officials are close to signing off on the 2012 general election results.

The last of the 55 counties finished its canvass of the vote Friday afternoon. That gives statewide candidates until Tuesday afternoon to request a recount.

The next step is for each county's commission to approve the final totals. That may take some time. The Hardy County Commission has told Secretary of State Natalie Tennant that it won't meet until Nov. 28.

The canvass did not appear to change any of the unofficial results reported Nov. 6. The review upheld the close wins by Republicans John McCuskey of Kanawha County and Berkeley County's Mike Folk in a pair of House of Delegates races.

After the county commissions act, Tennant will deliver the official results to the Legislature.
