Sadie's words callous, hurtful

Editor:

Monsignor Sadie wrote "Catholic Church, it remains the best, easiest and most visible target of principled and unprincipled lawyers."

This statement is so callous and hurtful to any victim who has been sexually abused by a catholic clergy. Monsignor Sadie wants us to believe that lawyers and money are the driving force that has created the massive explosion and news of thousands of catholic clergy sex crimes against kids.

Those who have been abused and re-abused by the Catholic Church leaders want only one thing: They want to be believed so that NO other child will ever have to endured the life long pain of being silenced and shamed because of the systemic abuse and cover-up within this church. Victims want their day in court so that church documents can be subpoenaed and so that the full truth can be exposed, and criminals can be jailed and kept away from kids.

Sadie goes on to elaborate in his long litany of all the good the Catholic Church has done, like respond to worldwide poverty, illiteracy, hunger and natural disasters; efforts to end capital punishment; and efforts to care for the sick, aged, disenfranchised, orphans.

Yes, this is true. The Catholic Church has done a lot of good deeds.

But, keep this in mind: Child predators are well known for having done tons of good deeds, yet they also commit horrible crimes against innocent kids.

In the eyes of those who have been abused and to so many parishioners, all of the good that the Catholic Church leaders do is ruined the very minute they commit the crimes of enabling, covering up and protecting the child predators instead of protecting the children.
