Nov. 22. 2012: Marple firing, election thanks
Teacher furious over Marple's firing
Editor:
I am a teacher in Jefferson County and I am absolutely furious over the firing of state superintendent Jorea Marple.
The state school "audit" performed by Public Works LLC out of Pennsylvania had absolutely no knowledge of how education works. It made ridiculously stupid recommendations that greatly affect teachers of this state. Mrs. Marple disagreed with many of these changes because she's an educator herself (in the classroom) and has a realistic view of education and knows what will work and what won't.
The state Board of Education is ignorant of education. Wade Linger, president, has no knowledge of education and how things work. The BOE screwed things up so badly that two of its members want to resign.
What in the world makes BOE members think they are qualified to recommend any changes in education, or the firing of Marple (which, I believe, is solely due to her rejection of many suggestions made by the Public Works LLC audit, which is ignorant of education). It would be like me walking into a doctor's office and making suggestions on how he or she should care for patients.

Justice-elect gives thanks to voters
Editor:
I am deeply honored to have been elected to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. My election would not have been possible without so many wonderful West Virginians who volunteered their time during this past year.
So many were supportive, helpful, and kind from the very first day of this endeavor. I have been touched by the personal letters, emails, and phone calls during and after the election from individuals who expressed how pleased they were that we ran a positive, family-oriented campaign. I simply wanted to express my sincere gratitude. I will work hard for the next 12 years and promise to serve all West Virginians with honor.
