Marple firing was blatantly illegal

Editor:

As a retiree of the Kanawha County Board of Education, I was appalled by the illegal method in which Dr. Jorea Marple was terminated as State Superintendent of Schools. The sincerity of this lady as to the improvement of the education system is surpassed only by the desire to perform her duties to the betterment of West Virginia students. Improved graduation rates as well as nutritional improvements are a definite plus in her pursuit to "go forward."

This deplorable dismissal was a clear violation of the open meetings law and as such should be addressed by the governor with the actions of immediate dismissal of the board's President Mr. Wade Linger, as well as member Gayle Manchin.

Mr. Ken Hall's commentary of Nov. 23 was right on target. The only thing missing is Sen. Jay Rockefeller's comments, which we would all like to hear.

Overall, Jay's record superior to Capito's

Editor:

Despite my grief over Jay Rockefeller's 40-year support of mountaintop removal strip mining, the rest of his record is fresh air compared to the stagnant right-wing record of Shelley Moore Capito.
