I served on the St. Albans Library board for many years and saw the many facets of the Kanawha County Library, including community programming, meeting rooms, high-speed Internet access, West Virginia Digital Entertainment Library Initiative audiobook and ebooks, and help with homework both at the library and online. Yet the Kanawha County school board thinks libraries are useless nowadays. In the Feb. 26 Gazette I found two interesting quotes:
Which school board president do you think has the best interests of his students at heart?
We have the routers, so let's use them
For crying out loud, I am tired of all the whining about the routers. What is done is done. If the routers are so powerful, then it's got to be a boon for West Virginia. Let's put them to use. There has got to be someone with the intelligence to install them for the benefit the state's citizens. So what if a small library has some computing power? Good for them. Got lemons, make lemonade.
