Building allies is like making friends: If you constantly abandon the ones who have stood by you in order to suck up to the newest "popular kid," you'll soon have no friends at all. Pro-American governments will only come to power when we make it clear that we have a long-term commitment to promoting anti-Islamist, religiously tolerant and pro-Western movements in the Middle East.
Gazette's Camp Fund a great benefit to state
I am writing this letter to thank Mrs. Elizabeth E. Chilton, Karin Fuller and other writers on The Charleston Gazette staff who created the brilliant idea for the Send-A-Child-To-Camp Fund. This highly successful program, which has benefited over 9,000 youths, not to mention the thousands of adult participants whose lives have been positively impacted, is one of the state's truly remarkable community initiatives.
The amazing weekly human-interest stories that encourage the newspaper's readers to donate to the fund, also demonstrates how important and valuable a camp experience is for a wide and diverse number of West Virginia's young citizens.
Once again, I would like to applaud Gazette Charities for implementing and maintaining this excellent program, as well as the many donors who contribute to the camp fund.
If it was within my power I would award the Send-A-Child-To-Camp Fund and its donors a National Hometown Hero Award.
