When a child has completed his last grade in elementary, middle school and high school, that child should be able to go on the class field trip.
GPA, in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension or write-ups should not be a factor. Write-ups and suspension are punishment and on their records. They shouldn't have to be punished twice.
They went to school with their classmates and should be allowed to take their last trip with their classmates.
The same goes for the West Test. If there is a family emergency or they are ill and miss a day of the West Test, they are punished by not being allowed to go to a pizza party. Four years ago, my grandsons were not allowed to attend a pizza party because of a family crisis beyond their control.
School is supposed to be the best years of your life, not a prison. It should be good, happy memories. Teachers need to get the idea they are there to help students, not be their opponent.
FestivALL staff's efforts appreciated
I was a vendor at the Capitol Street Art & Craft Fair as part of FestivALL. I would just like to take a few minutes and give praise to all of the organizers, volunteers, security personnel who were part of this. They did an amazing job. They would help us unload our vehicles, assist us with parking, offered to man our booths so we could take a break, and they were walking around offering free bottles of cold water to the vendors. People who organize events such as this often don't get the kudos they deserve. They worked very hard at making this event successful. The vendors felt welcomed and we were treated wonderfully.
Other event coordinators might want to take a look at how FestivALL is organized and take some notes.
This was my second year there and it most certainly won't be my last. Keep up the good job.
