You do a disservice to them and to your readers by focusing on Ms. Sprinkle and ignoring the fundamental message of the film. Shame on you for that.
Gun culture better understood after debate
I grew up and raised a family in the suburbs of New Jersey, 20 miles from New York City. Guns are not a normal part of everyday life here as they are in more rural areas around New Jersey and the country. More often than not, references to guns in my region involve criminal activity, and many illegal guns come from states with fewer restrictions.
Thanks to the very public discussion around the Manchin-Toomey background check proposal, I now have a better understanding of the gun ownership experience and the family traditions existing in different areas throughout the U.S. Although I would have preferred the bill include a ban on military-style assault weapons and magazine size limits, I am very grateful for the worthy effort of these two senators. I look forward to a rematch.
West Virginians should thank Sen. Joe Manchin for giving people like me a better appreciation of the concerns of legitimate gun owners. They should also thank him for his humanity and courage and tell the NRA to take a hike.
