Is there anything else?
I felt a surge of the "nasties" when I realized the shutdown was affecting so many poor people. And the band plays on, "We Shall Overcome."
It was hard for me to get a hold of myself. The shutdown is an outrage, a sorry communication on the freedoms we enjoy, purchased with blood, sweat and tears of those who have gone before us.
I'm almost through with this little outburst. The question is, how does one cope? You might get a punching bag and go to work. But let me suggest that we pray, not only for the president and those in the Senate and House of Representatives, but for our nation as a whole.
We come to understand once more that a good education or good promises are at times worthless without good principles. And the call to love your neighbor as yourself suddenly seems fresh and highly relevant.
Peace to you!
