Writer's, Gazette's putdowns of W.Va. terrible
Sue Davis Buchanan's putdown of West Virginia is terrible. Buchanan should be telling the good things she experienced growing up in West Virginia.
What I think is worst, though, is the Gazette promoting such putdowns of our citizens.
How to avoid another government shutdown
I am writing in reference to the recent government shutdown. In order to avoid another one, this is what I think we should do:
We should quit borrowing money - cold-turkey - and concentrate on paying what we owe. As for raising the debt ceiling, that should be out of the question. While we are at it, we should see if we can make a deal with the countries we owe - our technology, in exchange for a clean slate.
GOP not helping Americans by cutting SNAP
I was watching the television the other day and I saw several Republicans, including Eric Cantor (R-Va.), talking about how they wanted to do what is fair for all Americans. They have a lot of nerve saying that when they voted to slash the SNAP program (food stamps) while 17 of their Congressional members received farm subsidies. One member's family received nearly $3 million, yet he was one that was very vocal in defense of the slashing of food stamps. It takes a lot of brass to say that the Democrats and the President are unfair to people, yet cut programs that hurt the poorest in this country.
