Having just one water treatment system is not good
Everyone is quick to point fingers, but did anyone stop and think about the Public Service Commission allowing West Virginia American Water to purchase many small surrounding public service districts, shut them down and then run lines to tap into WVAW, all under one water treatment system?
They recently took over Pratt water and could probably have done some maintenance on the treatment plant instead of running a line under Kanawha River. Now Pratt is in the same boat as everyone else. Since the PSC has allowed WVAWC to grow, it has taken over the Clendenin, Coal River, Pinch, Pratt and who knows how many other treatment plants. It's not too bright to not have another water treatment plant on another river to tap into, should this ever occur again.
I for one did not drink the water before the chemical spill, and I'm sure not going to drink it now.

West Virginians are realizing truth on coal
The governor of West Virginia and his coal company cronies have long sought to portray the federal Environment Protection Agency as a tool of President Obama with a mission to execute a "war on coal." But even Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had said there would be no more coal fired plants built in this country.
The governor has used this phony "war on coal" meme as an excuse to allow coal and coal-connected chemical companies to pillage West Virginia, but now, finally, West Virginians are realizing that only "Obama's" EPA stands between them and the pillagers.
The state Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Health and Human Resources are clearly powerless. Big Coal will do what it can to weasel out of legal obligations to reimburse black lung victims and pensioned miners -- we are now certain that "friends of coal" are not friends of coal miners. As we learn that plans that would have avoided the current water catastrophe have existed for years, I am somehow reminded of the old union song "Which Side Are You On, Boys, Which Side Are You On?"
