- One of the shops at Capitol Market is selling wild mushrooms that a person gathered in the Kanawha State Forest. Is that legal?
- When you are flying, please keep in mind that your tray table is the back of someone else's seat. So when you push on it, pound on it, or play cards on it for a two-hour flight, it is ruining someone else's flight.
- So the Iraq war is over and we apparently won. My only question is what exactly did we win?
- Now we know who gets to drub John Raese. The question is how bad this time.
- If I did the math correctly, 30 percent of the employees have left or have been fired at Culture and History since Randall Reid-Smith became commissioner.
- I hope the folks at Auditor Glen Gainer's office are more gracious to Mr. Kabler than I would be after being called "gullible." These people work hard and Fanny Seiler he ain't.
- Stonewall Jackson gave his life for the Confederacy. He would probably not want to be associated with Clarksburg or Parkersburg.
- Is there a store in Charleston or Kanawha Valley that sells military campaign bars?
- Who enforces the no-smoking policy for Kanawha County school properties? They need to attend some midget league football games on Sundays and write some tickets.
- There hasn't been a good commissioner of Culture and History since Norm Fagan retired. When governors choose unqualified friends to fill the position, it diminishes the importance of the state's cultural resources.
- Since the Supreme Court has ruled that it is now OK for corporations to finance political campaigns, what is going to happen to the voice of the average everyday American?
- If they find that the two men Massey sent into the mine after the explosion were there to destroy evidence they should be tried for assisting with a homicide.
- Do you by any chance know the name of the song or the artist that was performed before the kickoff of the Marshall vs. Ohio State game on Thursday. I know it was a country group.
- West Virginia's nickname is the Mountain State, but it should be renamed the Coal State because coal has become more important to people than our beautiful mountains. I also wonder if people realize that coal is not a renewable resource and will be gone someday. What will you do then?
- Who becomes chairman of the National Governors Association when Joe Manchin goes to Washington?
- Gov. Manchin was real sweet to Shelley Moore Capito at Maritime Days in Point Pleasant, and talked about how politicians in West Virginia aren't partisan and "work across the aisle" to accomplish goals. I don't believe that.
- Kudos to Frontier Communications and the volunteers for the delicious pasta dinner served to the Charleston Distance Runners at the state Capitol on Saturday.
- I wish people would quit knocking Jimmy Carter. His son, Chip, married a woman from Charleston.
- How did the GOP "block" funding for the Greenbrier tournament? Shouldn't the Democrats have enough votes to do pretty much anything they want?
- About the Nike WVU football uniforms -- hey, I'm a liberal Democrat and even I find the environmentalists' objections silly. Nike is not advocating mountaintop removal, they're just showing how little they know about coal mining.
- Manchin doesn't like the idea of Raese using his own money to run a political campaign. He never had a problem when Rockefeller did the same thing. You can't have two sets of rules, Joe.
- Hard to believe a reader doesn't know the difference. Palin quit so she could charge $100,000 for her speeches and fly in private planes or first-class, etc. Manchin is seeking to continue to serve the people of West Virginia, just in a different role.
- Heard Raese's ad? Just what we need, a Florida resident paid by West Virginia fighting for a law in Arizona. Someone give John a GPS. He doesn't know where he is.
- Thanks so the wonderful people of Marmet for their hard work in planning the Labor Day event. This was a fun and safe family event, and I really enjoyed it.
- I'd like to know when they have these hurricanes and your family is on vacation, do they get their money back or do motels keep the money?
- I think West Virginia made a big mistake when they hired Stewart. They should have hired Doc Holliday; he's a much better coach.
- Glasgow, West Virginia, has a wonderful police force and a wonderful mayor. I've read where other towns don't have that, and I think ours is one of the best around.
- I think the Mountaineers' should make their coal miners one-time uniform their official uniform. It's absolutely outstanding.
- I would say that Spike Maynard will win in Mingo County because the people here don't know how to think for themselves. They have to be told how to vote by Don Blankenship and the preachers.
- It's a shame the Blossom has to close; they had great food and they did a great job. It will definitely be missed.
- While Thomas Hospital is talking about consolidating services, why don't they talk about consolidating some of their presidents, vice presidents and CEOs?
- I believe it's a sad commentary on our state when every part of the state is suffering economically and most of the comments in this column are about the silly bridge that was painted blue.
- The Gazette should realize the old 19th-century politics are over. The Tea Party will help the Republicans sweep the victory in the Congress and Senate. And another thing, we won the Iraq War.
- Would this newspaper please do a public service and explain how Social Security works? No, you don't have a Social Security bank account that accrues interest over your lifetime. The government spent it as soon as they got it from you. You are getting paid by the workers of today.
- I am sick and tired of hearing Mr. Raese talking about Obama and the rubber stamp.
- I've lived in Winfield since 1962. We do not want a toll road. The locals won't use it and it will force the trucks right back onto old 35 or over on Route 62.
- The reason there wasn't a big voter turnout is because the government has made sure that there's only minimum-wage jobs here for everybody who's not filthy rich.
- The St. Albans and Nitro Bridge looks like it's about to drop into the Kanawha River. They have been dragging their feet in building a new bridge, and if it falls the state will be sued. Lawyers, get ready.

- To the person who complained about getting a $410 fine for throwing a cigarette out the window: That is littering and at least you got a fine instead of starting a forest fire. Pay the fine, keep your garbage in the car.
