Anybody over the age of 50 can remember when all school meals were cooked from scratch. The cooks were hired back then because they actually could cook. And they took pride in hearing us brag about the spaghetti or the rolls or even the meatloaf that was served back then.
If Kanawha County Schools hired a secretary that couldn't type or a school bus driver that couldn't drive it would be a scandal. Therefore, if they hire cooks, they should be able to cook. Go for it, Pete Thaw.
It's a crying shame that the working man on minimum wage has to get a death sentence from a doctor before he can get medical insurance. It's America for you.
I see Nitro Library's got their flag put up finally. But the grass needs cut, there's big mounds of dirt out front. At least they could clean the dirt up. It's a shame that the flag has to be sitting in a place like that. They can't even take care of the grounds.
I see where you all printed that Carol Fouty is the most caring, honest person in the judicial system. That is a downright lie. And why will you not print nothing negative about her? My whole family is mad about this. We're thinking about doing away with the paper and we hope you go bankrupt.
Dan Cook, who had an article in The Charleston Gazette, wanted to know what Democrat has voted to take peoples' guns away. Can he tell me what Republican president has voted to take away Medicare, Social Security or HUD?
President Obama has already filed his income tax returns for the year 2011. Mitt Romney filed for an extension perhaps because he does not [want] anyone peering over his returns. Who knows what they will see?
I just want to know if anyone notices these big black birds flying around in the yards? I notice them about every day. Is it because of the bad storms out west? I notice they are very big black birds, flying in my yard.
I've got some pictures that I want to send out to a company that I've always used before. I want to know if York Photo Place is still in business in Maryland. If they are, could somebody please answer my question?
When is the state going to replace the Hartland Bridge in Clay County? Are they waiting until it falls through with a loaded school bus?
Do you know why there are so many obese Republicans? The only exercise they get is jumping to the wrong conclusions.
Mountaineer Gas charges a fee called customer charge just for doing business. I wonder if I could charge them a processing fee for paying my bill. The customer charge is more than the gas charges. Have a good day!
Priorities in this state are all wrong ... we are one of the poorest states in the country and it seems that everyone, especially young people, are walking around or driving with smartphones with additional apps to the tune of a couple of hundred dollars or more a month. What is going on?
Great editorial on Monday. But Americans want the super rich to duck paying $100 billion in taxes. That's why they elect Republicans to Congress in order to protect the 1 percent.
Another teacher falls victim to a bratty kid. The principal will lose his job, the taxpayers will pay the frivolous lawsuit, and the kid will still be a brat with no respect for authority and the firm belief that the world rotates around him.
If you bought Easter candy with food stamps then you should be prosecuted for misappropriation of taxpayer funds. Food stamps are for the very basic of needs, not soda and candy. This is no different than what the GSA is doing. It is not being nosy keeping an eye on people that accept taxpayer money.
I would like to read a comment from the offices of Capito, Manchin and Rockefeller about Amendment 28. The emails being circulated indicate this amendment puts Congress in the same health-care shoes that we wear. Let us hear from you.
Special needs children do not have the right to disrupt classrooms and make it almost impossible for the other children [to] learn.
To the taxpayers of Kanawha County, let's clean house at the county level, especially in the assessor's office.
Politicians act like rebuilding military tires and wheels is a new concept. Mine equipment companies have been doing it for years. Goes to show how long it takes the government to use common sense.
Democrat Warren Buffett is upset that his secretary pays higher tax rates than him and wants taxes on the wealthy raised. Republicans don't care that their secretaries pay higher tax rates than they do and in their typical greed, oppose paying more taxes even though God has blessed them financially.
Our Republican Congress has done more to divide Americans between religion, race, sex, region and financial status than any branch of our government in history.
A Republican president put us in the trouble we're in. A Republican Congress has kept us there. And another Republican president will take away all that you have. Wake up people. Obama has done the best he could with what he has had to work with. He deserves another term.
Like a pregnant woman about ready to give birth, nine months later Roger Clemens is back on trial.
Speaking of obnoxious commercials, none is more so than the local car dealers. They are not amusing, funny or likely to convince anyone to buy a car from them.
I agree with the writer in the Readers Voice that says that if Ravenswood Aluminum is going to start back up our electric bills should go back down. And who's going to take care of that for the people?
Dan Cook's op-ed piece printed in your paper on 4-16 hit that one out of the ballpark. Hooray for Dan Cook. We need more people to think like him.
I would like to know what Rockefeller and Manchin are going to do about this fiasco going on down in the country of Columbia with the Secret Service and prostitutes and so forth. I think they need to get the Justice Department in on this, wasting all the taxpayers' money.
The State won't let you smoke in your office any more and the rules say no tobacco of any kind. Yet they still allow people to sit in their office with snuff in their mouths every day and not only is that filthy, it makes you look like a blithering idiot. Come on, let's do something about it.
The Constitution says that man is free until proven guilty. So why is a man incarcerated for one year, on home confinement for four months without a trial. Not guilty until proven innocent.
I think that principal did a wonderful job getting that kid off the bus. When I was in school the principal would have paddled my behind.
That person that put in Readers Voice the other morning, stated why do people park their cars in their back yard? I don't think it's any of their business, they're just trying to be nosy. I think if you want to park your car in your back yard that's your business.
