I'd like to know why the Jackson County Armory down here in Knollwood wasn't open during the disaster. Isn't that what it's for?
I would like to know why these people on welfare are going to get their food stamps replaced because of the power outage. What about us taxpayers that pay for all this stuff? We don't get anything. I think everyone should get food stamps for the power outage, not only the people on welfare. They get a free cellphone. Give them a drug test.
I see where Ken Ward Jr., staff writer, is bringing up stories and tales about the black lung. He's just trying to get Obama more votes. Why is he bringing it up now just before election? If it's true he should have brought it up a long time ago, but I don't think and a lot of coal miners don't think it's true.
It is nice to see the Aspen Tree guys asleep while AEP pays them and the Department of Highways is clearing the rights of way out for them along the highways in Boone County.
I felt the response to Saturday's editorial was necessary. On the subject of all of the welfare crowd and lowlifes voting, why would anyone in their right mind want this bunch voting because all they will do is vote for who is going to give them the most handouts, not what is best for the country. I certainly do not want to see these people vote.
You know, I understand about everybody wanting a generator. I truly do. Here we're a week without power and now here we go again, but that is very inconsiderate to your neighbors to have to listen to that noise right outside their window. Very inconsiderate.
I hope you coal mining Obama haters took note of the article in the Monday Gazette that clearly identified that Republicans are trying to eliminate your black lung benefits and they say it's your own fault you get black lung disease. Oh, I forgot. You only watch Fox News where the real truth is told. Do any of you actually read instead of watching TV?
Suddenlink Internet service based in Hurricane ranks a C- on a national comparison based on real test results at Speedtest.net and people are rating it as poor. Since they have a monopoly service here what recourse do we have? Is it a regulated utility? We need it improved or Comcast instead.
The APCO truck/UFO quip was absolutely the best ever. We are in our 10th day without power in a neighborhood with some older residents who are having a really tough time. If the governor wants to gain votes, getting on Appalachian Power to get some results would be a good way to drum up support for his candidacy. APCO and the Public Service Commission are useless. Bury the lines and cut out all the crap. It can't cost any more than bringing in hundreds of out-of-state workers who don't know the area anyway.
Jane Fonda is on the list of the "top 100" women in America. That just fits the times. A communist holding that much esteem with the American people. Patriotic American men, and women, fought and died to defeat communism all across the globe, and now we are celebrating the likes of Jane Fonda.
Remember the Gazette's sustained outrage policy and those hard-hitting editorials condemning scandals and corruption? Now the Gazette ignores the scandals that define the Obama administration: the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal, the Secret Service's bad behavior, the GSA spending spree and the worst of all, the national security leaks, apparently from the White House. But their editorials are tough on Romney because he is rich!
While the media will give them both a free pass like it always does, the aftermath of this storm is clearly President Obama's and Governor Tomblin's Hurricane Katrina moment. There were no plans in place at either the federal or state level to deal with such an event and more than a week later people are still suffering because of their inaction [and] lack of leadership.
