In George W. Bush's first term he failed to protect us on 9/11, involved us in two unfunded wars, and with the support of the GOP Congress passed the despicable Patriot Act and gave massive tax cuts to the rich, yet he was re-elected. I don't believe that Obama could have done that much damage to our country if he really tried hard, and yet some say he doesn't deserve a second term.
A neoconservative letter said, "left wing Democrats would like to disarm America." Hey, liberals love to hunt, but not with right-wingers, who don't know which end of the barrel to use. Remember Cheney shot his friend because he thought he was a duck!
Mitt Romney has hit a new low. Taking a political cheap shot during a situation when we all, as Americans, need to be behind the president as he deals with a difficult foreign situation, whereby an attack was made on our country. It is not only in bad taste, it is unpatriotic.
I notice that Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year. But I predict that county officials will once again schedule trick-or-treat for a different night, because a small number of people go to church on Wednesday night. So much for separation of church and state.
The auto club needs to come to Charleston where gas is $3.99 a gallon on the West Side. We get ripped off all the time.
Look at the chaos in Libya in the aftermath of our supporting terrorist rebels there, and then think about the fact that some people want to do exactly the same thing in Syria. Can't we mind our own business?
I see where Willard Mitt Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, is beginning to run ads for his re-election to the House of Representatives from Wisconsin. A good move if he expects to have a job after the first Tuesday in November.
Since when should one have to apologize for being successful or having something in this country? Do people think you have to come from nothing to have the experience to be the leader of our country? It's all right if you don't like Romney ... but don't knock him or anybody else because he is successful or has something. Americans used to admire success.
I trust that Friends of Coal is standing shoulder to shoulder with the miners in Charleston. Or is it the EPA's fault? Perhaps a more accurate name would be Friends of Arch Coal or Friends of Patriot Coal. It's a pity that the miners can't see who the real enemy is.
Millions of dollars being wasted through welfare fraud and DHHR doesn't raise an eyebrow. Somebody doesn't get the bid for advertising contract and it turns into major scandal.
Desperate people do desperate things. Case in point: The Republican Party ads against Gov. Tomblin are pitiful. They look like they were made for a Saturday morning cartoon audience. But then, they are all about make-believe anyway ... rich make-believe! Can they stoop any lower? Probably.
The Middle East is about to explode. Obama doesn't have time to meet with Israel's prime minister but has time to appear on Letterman. We can't afford another four years of this guy at the wheel. We might be lucky if we make it to January.

I am certainly glad that President Obama is in charge after the tragedy in Libya. Romney couldn't even avoid offending our oldest ally, England, when he went on his "world tour." I don't know why he feels that he has the right to speak on behalf of the United States.
Your editorials often run down out-of-state corporations. Stockholders own all of the large corporations that are located in all states, including West Virginia. I wish more of these corporations would move their businesses to our state. We need them to improve our economy.
Dan Senor, a neo-con adviser who helped push George W. Bush into the Iraq War, is Willard Mitt Romney's foreign policy adviser. That explains a lot. Just what we need, more of the idiotic thinking that got us into two unfunded wars. Vote Republican, keep us in eternal wars we can't win.
Israel is desperate to drag the U.S. into war with Iran. Apparently they're not satisfied with the billions of dollars we give them yearly. They also want the blood of our children.
I was pleasantly surprised when in Lewisburg to see that parking was free for a two-hour limit all day/every day. I was in downtown Charleston and saw no foot traffic. I did spot two guys exiting a restaurant who seemed happy until they spotted the parking ticket on their vehicle. It seems Charleston could waive the meter collection on weekends just to encourage folks to return to the downtown businesses.
The state should stop wasting taxpayers' money to provide free school tuition to state employees. Most of those people who take advantage of this are either already close to retirement age and/or they just want to make it easier to get a private sector job ... all on the taxpayers' dime.
The Affordable Care Act, also know as "Obamacare," is supported by the AARP and the AMA as well as many other groups, such as the American Public Health Association, the American Geriatrics Society and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Check their web sites. Anyone who says this act is bad for senior citizens is simply wrong.
I would like to know what Charleston is doing with the user fee? There are less police and firefighters on the street and the city is filthy. MacCorkle Avenue should be renamed Trash Lane and the West Side is worse.
I am surprised that the Republican Party, Tea Party Branch, hasn't called for the removal of The Flintstones from the Cartoon Network. After all, the Rubbles and the Flintstones are having "a gay old time."
If anyone is wondering if our state is better off than we were four years ago, today's headline tells the story: "Budget has $88M Surplus" -- and that's after adding $67 million to the current year's budget and transferring $28 million to the Rainy Day Fund.
As an independent voter, I'll do what's right for my country and vote for Obama.
The rioting Middle East Muslims can't grasp free enterprise, so they apparently think the movie supposedly unfavorable to their religion was officially produced by the U.S. government instead of a private party.
