Readers’ Voice: Nov. 17, 2012
In addition to the wall between church and state, it's becoming more and more apparent that we need a wall between corporations and state.
Is there anyone who wasn't already aware the military is nothing but a big frat-boys club at the top?
Joe Manchin's involvement in the firing of state Superintendent Jorea Marple is disgusting. Only a coward would do this after the election. This is just another example of why he is not worthy of representing West Virginia in the Senate. And, yes, I am a Democrat!
I know what it's like to be bullied for being gay, but I'm not gay. I was in band, choir, speech and drama and I didn't have sex with the girls I dated. I said it was because of religious reasons, but it was because I was molested as a child and felt uncomfortable with sex. After I got therapy in college, I was able to have a normal sex life. Other people's assumptions made it harder, it made my life harder and it perpetuated their prejudice.
Well, with more Republicans in the Legislature, the governor's hands-off approach, Dr. Marple gone, and the Manchin-controlled faction dominating the Board of Education, voucher programs and charter schools can't be far behind.
With congressional Republicans acting like Lilliputians tying down Gulliver with little ropes, the United States may suffer the first congressionally mandated recession in history.
Why would've anyone expected a different result in the presidential election? When we now have a nation made of bums, one candidate is traipsing around the country making promises and playing Santa Claus, and the other is expecting everyone to work and take personal responsibility, the outcome was obvious.
We have absolutely nothing to be concerned about with the Gen. Petraeus affair. What he did outside of his marriage is just part of the evolving morality the paper is always promoting.
Sen. John McCain is a joke. A man with no honor, who, after being castigated by George W. Bush and his father, was last seen hugging George W. Bush. A Vietnam POW who was awarded medals for being shot down and imprisoned was no hero, just an unlucky or incompetent naval aviator.
It's time for the president to actually lead. He is good at throwing out generalities and leaving the work to others. Just say exactly what you want and then fight for it. Talk some specifics for a change.
Apparently it hasn't dawned on the GOP that they got their clock cleaned in the recent election, as they are still the party of "no." They are trying hard to become a party of no importance in American politics and are succeeding beyond their wildest dreams.
The president is reaching out to both parties and trying to unite the parties and what he is receiving in return is pouting Republicans who are mad because they lost the election, notably Graham and the guy from Arizona.
Please let me reply to the one that said the GOP wants to block the president because of his spending and the GOP want to cut spending. They didn't try to block George Bush when he spent the surplus and ran up the deficit. The majority of the deficit is the Republicans' responsibility. You do your research.
The 51 percent need to realize that the 49 percent are still here and haven't gone away and we're not going to roll over and play dead for the next four years either.
I'd like to thank the minority in this state who voted for President Obama again. Since Election Day, the Dow has dropped 800 points. Once again, I'm watching my 401(k) retirement disappear which means if I can hold on to a job and am not laid off, I have to work longer before I can retire. So, thank you very much.
Hey, Gov. Tomblin, since you figured out a way to do away with the food tax, why don't you figure out a way to deal with paying the vehicle tax?
Today is Nov. 14 and I'm reading the Readers' Voice and I can't believe that a person who supported the president and doesn't like the other party tells them to take their un-American socialist attitudes and move to the Ukraine. Maybe he's got it backwards. The socialist attitudes are the ones that won.

If the Republicans are ever going to win another election, they need to replace the tea party with gays, blacks and Latinos.
Does anyone else in West Virginia think Oliver Luck should be looking for a new football coach?
Is there any place in Charleston where you can get dental work done for people who have welfare? I need some fillings, and all welfare will pay for is having a tooth extraction because they won't be bothered with paying any more for any work done on teeth.
To the person who said the election could not be bought: It may not have been bought, but it sure was stolen and all you have to do is look at the headlines in Pennsylvania to see that, my friend, as well as Ohio.
Holgorsen obviously needs to get his head together, that big head of his, anyway.
I have a fruitcake recipe that calls for candied citron. Does anybody know where to get candied citron in the Charleston area?
Can someone not step in and help the Smithers Fire Department? Do they not have an assistant chief that could step in until the fire chief can get his life together and get things straightened out for the fire department? Something needs to be done.
Lying is one of the characteristics Barack Obama admires the most, since it's one of his best traits. Look at Susan Rice. She goes on five Sunday talk shows and lies about the Benghazi attack and he rewards her with a promotion. Wonderful.
Way to go, Jane Claymore. I loved your column "Winners and losers." Thank you for writing exactly how I feel.
There must be federal law that if you work at a convenience store or a fast-food restaurant that you have to be a smoker because at any one I've ever been by in my life, there's one of their employees standing outside having a cigarette.
I think Romney and Eastwood need to take that empty chair on tour around the country. They could make a fortune charging the right-wing nuts admission to watch them talk to it.
Now everyone's wanting to figure out what's wrong with the educational system in West Virginia. It's simple. It's administrators, administrators, administrators and their huge salaries. If it wasn't for their huge salaries, then you could have the money to pay for the math and science teachers that we need so badly.
Republicans will send someone else's kids to fight an unnecessary war like Iraq but then try to make it impossible for them to vote if they don't vote Republican.
Dana Holgorsen will try to get Mack Brown's job in Texas within two years before his time is up at West Virginia.
Wednesday at 1 p.m., President Obama gave his first press conference in nearly two months. I heard a very conciliatory president who is willing to work with both sides, but I also heard a president who is not going to be pushed around. He is the greatest speaker since Abraham Lincoln.
Since I was in church, I am thankful Halloween was changed. I got to treat a lot of little children. I remember years ago it was cold and I made ghost outfits for three neighbor children to wear over their warm clothes. They could be seen a long ways off and it made it a lot safer.
