Congress could use a few statesmen and a whole lot less of great politicians who have perfected the art of pandering.The voter who blamed the problem in Washington on the idiot democrats has got to stop watching Fox or listening to Rush because it drops their IQ to zilch. The Democrats never swore their allegiance to Grover Norquist instead of America. The Republicans who signed the pledge should be tried for treason.The dirty little secret in Washington is that the tax cuts for the so called 'middle class' have been the biggest driver of our budget deficits for over a decade. If [when] they are extended it will assure us of continued huge deficits and hasten our fast approaching day of reckoning. Fairy tale budgeting survives for a little while longer.Every day I read the Gazette, new evidence surfaces as to why we need an elected West Virginia Board of Education. Are there any other people out there who agree? If so, what does it take to make this a reality?I hope President Obama holds the line on raising taxes on the millionaires and billionaires. I don't understand why -- after you consider payroll and social security taxes -- my secretary is paying a higher percent of her income in taxes than Brad Pitt is.A big thank you to the person who commented how the Republicans needed to realize Obama really knows what he's doing. I haven't laughed that hard for a long time.Ashley Smith of WCHS-TV has moved to WSIL-TV in Harrisburg, Ill. I just watched her do today's forecast on their website on this here Internet machine.GOP traveling medicine doctors spew more shameless witches brew there to keep you scared. Arabs coming to get you, guns, Bibles, bad teachers, lazy, everybody's getting welfare, etc. Now over the cliff, making up facts again, rich taxes must be protected, cleaning up water and air kills jobs, etc. When does West Virginia wake up?I simply do not believe politicians. To the media, they say, "We need to join forces and reach across the aisle." Then, when they are out of the "spotlight," they act like the little children they really are. Shame on you. I guess what a famous Washington figure said was true: If your government lies to you, it is for your own good.Why, WHY are we doomed to lowest-common-denominator films in this cinematic wasteland? How many Oscar-worthy, film-critic-recommended movies are showing within a 50-mile radius of Charleston? Two. And they're the same two in every single theater. Really, what is the point of even having five theaters if all of them are showing the same mindless dreck that passes for entertainment around here?Has anyone stopped to calculate that under even the most severe plan to reduce our deficit, we will still have one that exceeds $700 billion a year? Three years to add $2 trillion to the national debt instead of the current two years. We are a long way yet from facing the reality of the mess we are in. Time for some truth.The BOE needs to change its name to the BOC, Board of Corruption. Tomblin has a responsibility to the citizens and children to relieve that group from their self-serving positions. God forbid that anyone in state government dare to do the right thing ... . Apparently Marple did, and look what happened to her.Play like bums and still get a bowl bid. Yes, West Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.Why would President Obama think he can negotiate with Republicans to save America? They already made a pledge to Grover Norquist not to compromise even if it destroys our country.
