Readers' Voice: Dec. 8, 2012
If you don't know why West Virginia is now a "red" state, just ask some of your conservative friends if they know who Grover Norquist is. Nine out of 10 won't know because his name is probably never mentioned on "Fox Distorted News" station. They are very uninformed.
The rest of the world has determined that austerity is needed to rein in their fiscal problems. Here in the good ol' USA, we just keep spending and charging. We act like it doesn't matter and that it will go on forever with no repercussions. Wrong!
Two op-ed comments only serve to enhance the disgrace that coal has brought this state. McDowell County, rich in coal, has the poorest population, and the children suffer. And coal mine safety takes one step backwards and two steps backwards with the Friends of Coal (politicians and coal companies fighting every step of the way). Who is to blame? President Obama and the EPA.
Hey, Earl Ray. Let's invest some money into Kanawha State Forest. It's a great place to go.
Well, I wonder how the Dems are going to blame the legalizing marijuana on Bush. Oh, that's right, he isn't president no more. Must be smoking too much.
Bad luck or what? If it weren't for bad luck, West Virginia wouldn't have any luck at all. Not true. They have Oliver Luck.
Praise God! Homosexual issues are front-page Gazette, while lesser issues like the economy, politics, business and crime do good to make section C!
I may fail the Gazette's liberal litmus test on homosexual issues, but I'm glad the West Virginia DMV refused to legalize same-sex marriage in West Virginia. That is a power of the Legislature, not a state agency!
The Democrats are already threatening cuts to the military if they don't get their tax increases. They won't cut off welfare money being wasted on drug addicts and drunks, but they'll risk our national security to get their way.

Each person is responsible for their own health. Just choosing food wisely and cutting portions will improve your quality of life. A daily walk will improve attitude. Just do it!
Is there a petition circulating anywhere calling for the dismissal of the Manchin six from the state Board of Education? If anyone knows of one, please advertise in Readers' Voice where I can sign it. If none are going around, who should be petitioned to have them removed? The governor? The state Supreme Court? I have already petitioned God through prayer.
It used to be said that "education begets education." It now appears that this has changed in public education arena to be "stupidity begets stupidity." The higher level of education one achieves, it appears the dumber one becomes.
I would like to see U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin conduct an investigation into the no-bid contracts and firing of Dr. Marple by the state Board of Education. It probably won't happen.
People should pay attention to how Shelley Moore Capito votes on this "fiscal cliff" problem. Is she going to vote to help America or is she going to get in line behind Eric "The Weasel" Cantor, who voted seven times to raise the deficit limit under Bush, to keep her oath to Grover Norquist.
What better time than now for Congress to quit talking about reducing the deficit and actually doing it. They don't even have to vote for or against anything. Just adjourn and go home until 2013. Let nature run its course and allow everything that is supposed to expire actually expire. Too sensible to actually happen.
How does "Sen. Jorea Marple" sound? I suggest she should begin building a war chest for the next senatorial election. With the help of West Virginia schoolteachers, their families and friends, she could oust DINO Sen. Joe Manchin. [State] Democrats please stay alert with the voting record the next years of Sen. Manchin siding and voting with the Republican Party.
Doesn't anybody get it? John Boehner and the Republicans are against Susan Rice for secretary of state because they know if Obama listens to them and doesn't pick her they know he will pick John Kerry and therefore leave Kerry's seat in the Senate vacant in hopes that Republican Scott Brown can take it back.
