The state's so-called "flagship university," WVU, has managed to embarrass the state again by allowing Syracuse University to make it a three-peat over the Mountaineers.
I wish the Gazette would do an article on what it would take to limit the terms of state and national representatives and senators. Also, I would like to know what it would take to get an elected [state] Board of Education instead of what we have now, a Manchin- and Tomblin-controlled state board.
Shelley Moore Capito sided with Eric Cantor and his Grover Norquist obstructionist agenda and voted against the fiscal cliff measure. Charleston Newspapers won't tell you that.
People say that you won't have mass murders if you take away law-abiding citizens' guns. Well, guess what? Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people and did not use a firearm. Taking guns away from law-abiding citizens will in no way stop mass murders. People kill people.
The Gazette's twin stories, "Saving Dollars, Saving Lives" on New Year's Day is the most recent example of your helpful, instructive news reporting by Kate Long, whose writing deserves wide attention for good municipal stewardship. Thanks.
Government programs are full of fraud. Voter ID makes sense. Race has nothing to do with it and the ones screaming racism are the ones who need to look in the mirror and reconsider who the racists are.
Our leaders in Washington seem to think people earning $400,000 a year are middle class. Just goes to prove how out of touch with the real world the ones in D.C. are.
Cigarettes and alcohol cause deaths. Nobody is banning those. Drugs kill people and they're actually leaning toward legalizing some of those. Why are the liberals just setting their sights on guns?
The "deal" allowing the tax cuts to continue will be paid for by your children and your grandchildren. Enjoy them.
To the person wanting to know about suing the U.S. military for her son becoming a homosexual because his wife cheated on him, he probably was homosexual before this happened and this is his way of "coming out" to everyone. You cannot sue the U.S. military for this type of action.
Every worker in this state and any other state has the right to work. They have the right to choose a job that is part of a union shop or they can find a job that is not union.
As much as I dislike the idea of having yet another Democratic governor, I must say it is refreshing to have one whose face is not plastered on the front page of every newspaper every day and who is not on the TV news every evening.
The entire Congress needs to relocate to the North Pole. That is the full-time residence of the mystical one who gives toys to all without cost.

Idiot Obama beats genius Republicans again. Wonder how he does this, as conservatives think he is stupid? The only answer is that it is the conservatives who are stupid, and studies have proven that.
Shelley Moore Capito, true to her aristocratic, blue blood heritage, has once again voted against 99 percent of West Virginia citizens.
From what I've read, the GMC bailout has cost the taxpayers $12 billion, yes $12 billion that the government has written off. Buying their stock for more than it was worth and then selling it for even less. How can we go on keeping these people in Washington? We need to purge Washington of every one of these politicians. I don't understand the mentality of the voters in America, keeping the same do-nothings in Congress.
Have you noticed? The same Democrats who had no problem giving guns to our enemies with Fast and Furious and in Benghazi now want to take guns away from American citizens.
Obama didn't get elected because he's smarter than the GOP. He was elected because half the country is getting free handouts. He bought the election with our tax dollars and then he blames the GOP for the economic crisis.
Chuck Hagel would make an excellent Defense Secretary, given his military and political background, but apparently before we can appoint him we must beg for Israel's permission.
Gun buybacks are a win-win-win! Police get good PR. Gun thieves get a legal fence. And gun dealers sell more guns to replace the stolen guns hawked at buybacks.
It's ludicrous for a professor to say it's bad to arm teachers with master's degrees, but OK to arm high school grads with a badge. Is education dangerous?
OK. An animal rescue group saves stray dogs to be sent to other states for adoption. What happens to the stray dogs in those other states? Are they sent to other states or are they put to sleep? Somewhere down the line dogs are going to be put down and all the effort to save them hasn't gained a thing.
Retailers, developers and owners of the Trace Fork shopping complex have made millions of dollars off their investments. Why aren't they responsible for at least a portion of the cost to add a new access road? Maybe we should consider shopping elsewhere.
Ordinarily I'm the Gazette's biggest fan, but I can't understand how making it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to obtain a gun will make America safer.
Why in the world is Ms. Marple suing the state for her firing? Is she suggesting that the state is compelled to keep her in her former post? Did she not serve at the will of the board? People with graduate degrees and higher always feel a sense of entitlement for certain positions, as if we should be obligated to have them.
We need to give Dana Holgorsen some time to get his people and players in place. Rich Rod didn't win right away and Stewart was a step backwards. Stewart only won because he had Rich's players. I liked Stewart, but I was happy to see him go. I love the change in conferences.
