Let me get this right: The new attorney general criticized Darrell McGraw for "grandstanding" and "showboating," but has announced to the press, in one of his many recent news conferences, that he is going to hold a press conference "just made for television." I think a new ego is under the Capitol dome.

Many of us who are older and who have few or no children still paid taxes to support our educational system. It was a comfort knowing that while our families were limited, that our tax dollars to the Board of Education did support a library that we can now use in retirement.

Our television networks can charge millions of dollars per minute for commercial time because they, and their advertisers, know how persuasive television is in shaping what we buy. Then they tell us that where violence and immorality is concerned, what we do, television has no influence on us whatsoever.

Floods, fires, famine, terrorism, war, political unrest and the world on the brink of financial collapse and what is at the front of millions of people's minds? A painting of Kate Middleton. Pitiful.

Americans continue to be shielded from the real cost of our government. As long as the Federal Reserve keeps printing monopoly money and as long as the Chinese pick up the tab for our credit card we will continue to live in the land of denial.

I saw concealed weapon permits issued for approximately 500 people listed in the Sunday paper for Kanawha County. It sure makes me feel a lot safer to know that these "good guys" are out there to protect us.

The Second Amendment begins, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state." If gun owners and the NRA are not a well-regulated militia, why do we permit them to have assault rifles, etc.? Do the citizens of Newtown feel secure?

To the person who said that I receive handouts for financially supporting the re-election of our president: Guess again! I work very hard and I have three jobs. I have worked non-stop for 45 years. So not sure why the narrow-minded folks think that someone who is educated and gives back is lazy.

I would love to know what the average length of stay was at the hospitals listed in Friday's paper. The average cost of a stay at CAMC was over $29,000 and about to go up. I was there for a four-night stay, and my bill was right around $65,000.

One hundred people died today because of drunk drivers running automobiles. So I guess now we're going to have two weeks of talks about getting rid of whiskey and the car just like we talk about the weapons. We've been talking about that for two weeks now.

I tried to watch "Buckwild," but there were so many commercials and so long that I didn't think I would live long enough if I lived to be 100, so I quit trying.
