To all you gun nuts supposedly worried about damage to the Constitution, where were you when the greatest damage to our Constitution, the Patriot Act was passed? You are apparently not worried that the government can monitor your phone calls, emails and other facets of your private business. Don't come crying now about losing your rights.
The "officials cost us the game" excuse at every level of every sport gets real old. Grow up, you "fans," and accept that you win some and you lose some but officials are rarely the reason.
Sean Hannity says that if a dozen intruders attack your home, which we all know happens often, and you have only 10 shots in your gun, you have a big disadvantage. What an idiot.
All the uproar about spending: Now is the time we should be spending more. Interest rates are low, and just as FDR did to get us out of the Depression, we should be spending to rebuild our infrastructure and put America back to work. To quote the great GOP leader Dick Cheney: "The deficit does not matter."
Perhaps we should fund armed guards for our schools with a special fee on gun and ammunition sales equal to what the guards would cost. Then it would be "revenue neutral" and not contribute to the deficit. Since armed guards are the only solution the NRA supports, they could show us just how sincere they are about it.
I admire Cross Lanes United Methodist Church because they are a large church, yet they just have a simple metal sign that points to their church instead of one of those expensive signs that churches use to try to outdo each other with the wittiest saying.
West Virginians are being taken to the bank by insurance companies while the state cozies up to them. We pay for protection from them and for protection for the environment but with little protections seen. We pay for it, the corporations benefit. We gave up a lot in lawsuits to lower our insurance a few years back. What happened?
I long for the good old days when you could attend a sporting event and most people were respectful and civil. Now it is constant yelling at the officials, tweeting or blogging a commentary on each play as it unfolds, and no one able to sit still for one minute. Sorry, but it just isn't for me.
When you hear the Republicans who control the U.S. House of Representatives pledge to not accept pay until Congress passes a budget, consider the 27th Amendment: "No law, varying the compensation for the services of Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened." Either these clowns do not know the content of the Constitution or they are liars.
For the Democrat that can't understand how a Republican can be for gun rights and anti-abortion. Well it is the exact same as you being against guns that that can be used to kill and then be all for the killing of innocent unborn babies. How can you sleep at night thinking that way? Remember, guns don't kill; the people that used the guns killed people.
So I saw the item in Saturday's paper about the kindergartner in Mount Carmel, Pa. It's obvious: The only way to stop a bad 5-year-old girl with a bubble gun is a good 5-year-old girl with a bubble gun.
It's coming up toward evening. Time to turn on the Lance Armstrong, inauguration, Kate Middleton and gun control news network. That's all there is on it.
I love the levee stage. If you need volunteers to clean it, just let the people know.
Some people think that criminals will obey gun laws. Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.
First it was "Friends of Coal," now "Gun Appreciation Day." Is there no end to the idiotic worship of inanimate objects, or are we going to be subjected to "Pocket Knife Week" or maybe "Toenail Clipper Month"?

In the coming weeks and months I'm afraid we're going to see the true coarseness and incivility of the NRA and the absolute rabid nuts that support what they call gun rights. Folks that do not understand the intention of the Second Amendment, the absolute bigotry and hatred will come out and it's going to play ugly in the press.
Other than Rockefeller, all West Virginia delegates speak against everything that the president tries to do and they criticize everything he tries to do. They don't care about the people, only maintaining those votes here in West Virginia. We need to watch very closely how they vote on all issues.
While attending a local college, when a problem came up in any class which required any calculations of math at all -- whether it be adding, subtraction, division or whatever -- when this problem would be announced, a collective groan would go up in the class because people were fearful of math. Don't make math a fearful subject.
To the [reader] who thinks because I didn't vote for Obama I am a DINO: For your information, not only do I have ethics and morals, I have intelligence. I don't worship socialism, fascism, Marxism or anyone who believes in any one of the three.
NRA and gun advocates say we need new mental-health reform, not new gun laws. Why can't we have both?
The NRA used to be a fine organization, and then the right-wing Republicans took it over and turned it into a political organization dedicated to getting right-wing Republicans elected to office.
Where is the justice for the slaughter of the 14 unarmed men and women by a Muslim maniac at Fort Hood several years ago?
Congress is at it again. Kicking the debt limit down the road for three months and creating another "crisis" when that time expires. There are no real permanent cuts to spending and I don't look for any out of this dysfunctional group of hypocrites. Deep cuts across the board to everything or steep tax increases for everyone. There is no other way.
Apparently the Kanawha County Commission needs more money for Kanawha County, and they must be jerking the assessor's tail. The assessor needs a dose of reality. You can't do it all on the back of homeowners.
Would you please explain the food programs for me? I heard a young man say he just bought $100 of food stamps from this young girl for $50. Now when he goes to the store, how does he spend these? I thought we had a tight control on this. Evidently we don't.
The closeness of Boeing and the FAA doesn't compare to the incestuous relationship the FDA has with the pharmaceutical companies.
If the GOP leaders would just read the papers, they have lost the election big time, except for West Virginia. The next election will not be any different here or national. G.W. [Bush] freed up assault gun sales and the rest is history, just like everything the GOP did.
[If] students with no ability to control their clothing are asked to wear uniforms, shouldn't our Board of Education be paying for them? Students grow fast and will need to wear outgrown uniforms just to attend. A very heavy burden for those with no resources.
I guess we can all feel safer now knowing criminals can no longer carry more ammo than law-abiding citizens can carry. For an educated guy, Mr. Obama doesn't have an ounce of common sense.
