I read that BrickStreet is giving $4 million to WVU. It made me sad, because the Morgantown university has mountains of money, while West Virginia State University and Tech at Montgomery -- here in the Kanawha Valley -- need donations a lot more.
Some believe gun "control" means a loss of liberty. But the real loss of liberty happens when libraries close. Knowledge is power and access to knowledge is what ensures freedom.
The cookies aren't evil. It's being a glutton and laziness that's evil.
There's an old saying, "If you can't play with the big dogs, you should stay on the porch." I do believe that WVU left the porch a bit too early.
I would love to see Charlotte Pritt run for Rockefeller's Senate seat.
Republicans have never done anything about abortion in the 40 years it's been legal. A big group of prominent Republican politicians came out in support of gay marriage this week and today over 200 corporations, which are almost always Republican, came out in support of gay marriage. Republicans are liberals.
Tim Tebow is doing what too many Christians do -- doing the easiest thing. Instead of going to that controversial church and telling them publicly they are wrong about some things, he just cancels looking like he's more concerned about his celebrity status than doing the hard thing for Christ.
How can I apply for the farm subsidy for not growing tobacco or wheat? If it pays enough I will lay down my plow.
I pray daily that the Defense of Marriage Act is struck down. Defense of Marriage? Defending it from what? Monogamous, loving couples wanting to get married? I would say that is something we all want. This act is simply a bigoted attempt to deprive American citizens of rights we all should receive equally.
If you take something that you did not earn and do not intend to pay it back and you make no effort to help yourself, then I hate to tell you but yes, you are a freeloader. There are jobs out there. What is not available are people willing to earn what they get.
If they really want to eliminate some of the waste in our government then one of the biggest budget cuts should come from the office of Congress, and members, along with other welfare recipients, should be drug-tested.
Why do so many of our state leaders disregard the need to maintain clean water resources? Do they all have second homes in other states?

If the Supreme Court rolls back sections of the Voting Rights Act it will be confirmation that the USA is being nudged (a stronger word might be needed) toward a fascist state where the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and those without power may as well get used to it.
I'd like to know why John Westfall got the Purple Heart and our two fallen troopers, Workman and Bailey, don't get nothing but a piece of paper. Can you tell me that?
Pete Thaw is the most shortsighted so-called public servant in Kanawha County. Maybe he should set foot in the Kanawha County Public Library before he shoots his mouth off. We need to vote this guy out.
Yes, I would like to know if these congressmen get paid while they're taking breaks and off. Are we using our taxpayer money to pay them for doing nothing and fighting and bickering? Let the people run the country. I mean, they've got more sense than they've got up there in D.C.
The bridges and roadways in Charleston are very dirty and look very old. Danny Jones needs to take some pride in this state and clean the mess up.
Anyone planning on buying a house down in Teays Valley owes it to themselves to drive in the morning during rush hour traffic or in the evening during rush hour traffic. The interchanges are horrible. The traffic is backed up. It adds at least 30 minutes to your drive time. Monday, Tuesday of this week, two wrecks, one hour to get in.
For the price to get in the Civic Center and the Clay Center both, the amount of money they charge to get into those places, taxpayers should never have to spend a dime to keep them up. They've got to be making enough profit to handle the upkeep on them.
This is for the politicians out there that keep wanting to cut Medicare and Medicaid and lower the amount of Social Security that we collect. Senior citizens don't have a chance. I'd like for you to try to live on $10,464 a year. Maybe you won't be so quick about trying to cut everything off.
I think if you have a background check to purchase a firearm, you should have a background check to vote. They're both constitutional rights. One shouldn't hold prevalence over the other.
Well, Pete Thaw is crying crocodile tears and rejoicing over getting the library money. As a taxpayer, I would like to have 50 percent of my taxes, property and personal property taxes go to the library, and not wasted by the Kanawha County Board of Education. All they do is take your money, start projects and never finish, and never finish on budget.
I'm a concerned citizen. I would like to know if there's a conspiracy of hot dog companies. Why don't the hot dogs in the pack match the hot dogs in the buns? There's always too many buns left over. I'm really upset.
It was so sad to see that the tea party were the ones that actually drank the Kool-Aid.
The library's financial woes are just the latest symptom in a long time coming realization that government entities are going to have to learn to reduce the services that they provide and learn to live within a realistic budget. The public is tired of being overtaxed and providing the same services that were once used by nearly everyone that are now used by only a few.
The more guns there are out there, the easier it is for criminals to get them. The more lethal they are, the more law officers, family members and innocent bystanders will be killed. It is a matter of probability.
