In her op-ed in the Sunday Gazette-Mail concerning the natural gas industry and fracking, Charlotte Pritt asks, "Why aren't state-elected officials protecting West Virginia?" They haven't protected us from the coal industry the past 100 years, so why would anyone be surprised that they won't protect us from the natural gas industry?
I heard a writer being interviewed on PBS yesterday. He had been mugged two days before the presidential election in Venezuela. He then told how he had rushed to get his voter ID replaced before the election. Even Chavez's Venezuela requires photo ID to vote. Why don't we here?
A few years back, bikers thought Manchin walked on water because he rode a Harley. There was talk that he would repeal West Virginia's helmet laws. Well, they're still wearing helmets, and now he's pushing for more gun restrictions. Now bikers are badmouthing him, and they're the ones who helped put him into office.
The Mingo County shooting proves that background checks are not a sure way to prevent murder. The government workers responsible for the checks are too busy playing video games, shopping online and talking on their cellphones to do their jobs. More background checks will only add more lazy government workers to the payroll.
We intelligent people, commonly called liberals, don't have to defend President Obama's policies -- they speak for themselves. All are designed to get us out of the Dark Ages, the years 2000-2008.
Currently, the Social Security payroll tax only applies to income up to $113,700. Any income above that amount is exempt from the tax. All we have to do to make Social Security secure for decades is raise this amount to $250,000, but it is never proposed. Why? Oh, that's right, we can't have the rich pay a fair share, they're "job creators." Yeah, right.
I wrote Sen. Manchin a letter concerning the Patriot Coal bankruptcy and the loss of salaried retiree medical benefits. I received a reply from Sen. Manchin concerning gun rights and his gun bill. Apparently he and his staff cannot read and comprehend English.
Once again, prayer is not banned in public schools. One can pray any time, as long as they are not disrupting a class or leading an organized prayer, which is prohibited by the First Amendment.
Isn't it funny that Obama supporters act like he's the greatest leader in history, but then to defend his actions they say he isn't doing anything that previous presidents haven't done.
Hey, crybaby Republican, George W. Bush spent far more time on that $184,000-per-hour airplane, but I didn't hear you crying about that.
We can't afford to have White House tours, but no problem using Air Force One to fly Newtown parents to Washington, D.C., for anti-gun photo op.
Dear "blame Bush for everything" Democrat. Our economic problems were caused by your "forget-the-taxpayer, take-care-of-the-party-first" Democrats refusing to balance the budget, limit spending and forcing banks to loan money to people they knew couldn't afford to pay back the loans.
