I guess when more direct terrorism plots failed to disrupt the U.S., the terrorists turned to others for help ... and now they have the government shut down. So what is next?
Senator Rockefeller is one of the wealthiest members of Congress, yet he cannot respond to his constituents. He is working hard to find a resolution to the health-care situation ... but he is apparently waiting for guidance from the Democratic Party, not from the people of West Virginia.
It is amazing how illiterate this country has become today. The number one cause for bankruptcy in this country is medical expenses. I am not a well-educated person, but I can read and comprehend. One visit to healthcare.gov and I realized how good this is for people with no insurance.
To claim Jesus wouldn't support helping the poor through taxes and government structures is nonsense. It's like saying Jesus cares about people's safety, but would only support voluntary, uncoerced compliance to traffic laws.
Democrats don't mind if people are rich. They just don't like the selfish rich that make up the Republican Party who are only concerned with getting dishonest tax breaks for themselves and have no compassion for the less fortunate.
Maybe the writers of Potpourri should read the U.S. Constitution or reliable reports about the reason the USPS is "troubled" before making comments. The USPS is mandated by the U.S. Constitution and any organization that is required to fund retirement accounts 75 years in the future would be "troubled."
Wow, 73 percent of West Virginia fourth-graders are not reading at a proficient level, per the Gazette article? The teachers most certainly do not deserve the pay raise they are pushing for. And since reading is so basic to all learning it proves the school system is a failure.
Maybe the Republicans in Congress should think of doing something good for a change ... like legalizing marijuana. Imagine all the people that would benefit! A great cash crop that gives taxable income to states, empties jails and reduces headaches for law enforcement.
The Republicans in Congress have shut down government because of the Affordable Care Act. They will do anything to discredit President Obama. So we should shut down the Republicans in the 2014 and 2016 elections.Companies use poison pills to discourage hostile takeovers. We need something like that to get Congress to work together. I suggest classifying IRS auditors as essential workers, and assigning them to audit members of Congress, lobbyists, and campaign contributors, etc., during any government shutdown.
