To the idiots that think their state should secede from the United States because of taxes, do you have any idea of how high your taxes would be then? You'd have to pay for a military, a government, a police force, medical care, etc. The cost would be prohibitive, and you would be begging to get back in the good old USA.
It is rather pathetic and embarrassing to watch Obama and Kerry grovel and beg Israel for permission to work out a deal with Iran concerning their nuclear energy program.
It is a bit presumptuous to think we need to cut our schools down from a high standard because of the failure of the levy. We need leadership to invent ways that move our kids forward instead of threatening the demise of an entire school system. Lack of everybody paying their fair share of taxes ensures hardships.
Well, congratulations, Mr. Thaw. Your mission in seeking election to the BOE -- starving the state's largest school district of much-needed funding -- is complete. Would you now do Kanawha County's students a favor and take your self-centered, anti-tax, anti-intellectual politics to a more suitable avocation? I'm sure the local tea party can use your services, and you won't have to pretend to be an education advocate there.
Billionaire Koch brothers are at it again. They are known as "Americans for Prosperity" and are currently running ads against Congressman Rahall. Let the Koch brothers spend their money, but pay them no mind.
As a veteran, it is a rare day when I do not think of our military and the sacrifices they make. As the TV programs of music and tribute to these brave Americans come on this weekend, it is not uncommon for the tears of pride to flow. Oh that our Congress and president had the same feeling and would act accordingly to preserve our way of life through agreement and compromise.
Every time you hear about a library branch closing or a public school service no longer provided, thank Pete Thaw. A school board member actively campaigning against a levy? Disgraceful.
Had the recent levy been split in two separate questions, I would have had no problem in voting yes for the libraries, but I will not vote for more money for a school board that does not or cannot live within their income, as I have to do.
