West Virginia seems to respond to crisis situations pretty well, but it would be better if they were more proactive rather than reactive. Maybe we should be checking the impoundment ponds/dams at all coal mines. We don't need another Buffalo Creek flood or similar toxic release. With all the sensors available, water should be checked downstream from all coal mines. Not just for an accidental release, but just in case coal mines release dirty water every time it rains.
Cruise ships do not make you sick! Beware on certain islands and make sure you eat at clean, sanitary establishments. Everyone disembarks and tours the different ports of call, and it does not take much for several passengers to stop and taste the island foods! I have cruised 20 times and have never been ill, but off the ship I am careful where I eat!
Pennsylvania Avenue and Dogwood Road in St. Albans, along with many of our other roads, are very dangerous stretches of road due to the potholes. However, impatient motorists, mostly who daily travel Pennsylvania Avenue, make the situation more hazardous. They cross the centerline to avoid potholes disregarding any oncoming traffic. I have been tailgated and even passed by these morons because I was going too slowly to suit them.
An elected politician in this state, who apparently is familiar with French history, on being informed that people do not want to drink the water from their taps was quoted as saying, "Let them drink champagne!"
Seriously, how many "baby daddy" shows do we need? I'm retired and can't afford cable, so I'm stuck with over-the-air. If the local stations base their programming on demographics, and I keep reading that West Virginia has a majority of old people, why not some old movies for us old people?
I really hate to sound like Ronald Reagan, but there you go again. The last time you complained that the president "dictates law thus shredding the Constitution" and I asked you for an example, you told me to watch Fox News -- which simply means you couldn't think of one. So I'll ask again: Can you name one single law President Obama has "dictated"?
Why didn't the West Virginia State Bar sanction the unethical and immoral conduct of the lawyers and law firm of Jackson Kelly in the black lung case of Fox v. Elk Run Coal? Just because the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals got it wrong doesn't mean the State Bar can't do the right thing.
After having shown the world that the U.S. is working for regime change in Ukraine, and antagonizing the European Union with her attitude and vulgar language, it's time for senior State Department official Victoria Nuland to be replaced by a professional.
Coal ash in North Carolina and Virginia and coal cleaning chemicals in West Virginia -- the true cost of coal, no matter what the "Friends of Coal" and Capito and Manchin tell you, are paid by the people, while they fight against environmental regulations and get rich from their coal interests. Just who do they represent, people or coal?
A consistent return of 9 to 10 percent on capital for West Virginia American Water is unreasonable unless the company is exceptionally competent. In responding to the MCHM spill, they have shown no skill in public relations or in water treatment.
