The Democrats had excised God (as well as support for Israel's claim to Jerusalem) from the party's quadrennial platform.

Matt Drudge saw this and decided to banner it on his Drudge Report.

Not being suicidal, President Obama told Democrats to return God and Jerusalem to the party platform.

Getting the Cleveland Browns to win a game is easier. The president needed two-thirds approval to return God and Jerusalem to the Democratic Party platform.

He may not have had half the votes.

"Needled by Mitt Romney and other Republicans, Democrats hurriedly rewrote their convention platform Wednesday to add a mention of God and declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel after President Barack Obama intervened to order the changes," the Associated Press reported.

"The embarrassing reversal was compounded by chaos and uncertainty on the convention floor.

"Three times Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the convention chairman, called for a voice vote on the changes and each time the yes and no votes seemed to balance each other out.

"On the third attempt, Villaraigosa ruled the amendments were approved - triggering boos from many in the audience."

The fans in Philadelphia no longer are the worst in the world. They only booed Santa Claus in 1968.

But Villaraigosa made the wrong call by ignoring the boos. Most Democrats no longer credit God for anything. Why have Him in the platform?

I am not saying Democrats are a pack of atheists. Democrats still believe in God.

Nancy Pelosi still goes to Catholic Church on Sunday. President Obama goes to a Protestant church. Harry Reid goes to a Mormon temple. The party is ecumenical.

In God We Trust is still the national motto.

Democrats simply want Americans to trust the government more.

Throughout my 59 years, Democrats have been the party of intellectuals - called eggheads in the 1950s - and under Obama, a college professor, we see the result of those years of intense thinking by these mental giants.

Man - through his production of carbon dioxide - now controls the weather, not God.

In college, many a professor lectured us on how man created God in his own image. Each professor admired such cleverness.

So why pretend that the party still believes that we are endowed by a Creator with certain inalienable rights? The party has evolved, as Obama said of his stance on gay marriage.

Honesty has its place in politics. Nothing is more shocking - or convincing - than when a politician tells the truth.

The truth is such a powerful political weapon that candidates wield it only as a last resort.

Democrats truly believe that they can create rights that are better than the ones already in our Constitution.

Health insurance is handed down not by God but by someone Democrats like better.

Republicans are amused by the result.

Dr. Barbara Bellar, a Republican running for the state Senate in Illinois, recently summed up Obamacare in one sentence to an audience of supporters, as transcribed by her office.

"We're going to be gifted with a healthcare plan we are forced to purchase, and fined if we don't, which purportedly covers at least 10 million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a president who smokes, with funding (laughter and applause) same sentence - with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we will be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government that has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese and (laughter and applause) and financed by a country that's broke (laughter and applause)," Bellar said.

Under such circumstances, it would be blasphemous to blame Obamacare on God.
