Fight for the right to be left alone
Constitutional amendments are called for
Advertiser

WE have a few Constitution-challenged individuals who want to secede from the union. They are as entertaining as they are benighted.

The whole point of the Civil War is lost on these lost souls.

Let us clarify matters by amending the Constitution to read: "the articles of this confederation shall be inviolably observed by every state, and the union shall be perpetual."

Those words are from the Articles of Confederation, the forerunner to the Constitution.

But it is hard to take seriously these petitions to secede when they come from people in all 50 states. All 50 states will secede? Really?

A more serious threat to liberty comes from the Democratic Party.

They want to amend the Constitution to overturn the Citizens United decision, which allows people to run political ads unrestricted by Congress.

This proposal to shut up Americans comes from the same liberals who said we should not clutter up the Constitution with a flag protection amendment.

Phonies.

I agree that restricting flag burning infringes upon our God-given right to free speech. The Constitution is meant to restrict the government, not the citizens.

Given the huge bipartisan mess in Washington, it is time to slap a few more restrictions on the government.

My amendments:

• Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of a health care insurance system, or prohibiting riding a motorcycle without a helmet; or abridging the freedom of hate speech, or of the politically incorrect press; or the right of the people to party, and to petition the government to leave them the heck alone.
