PIPESTEM, W.Va. -- Scenic views of the Bluestone River Gorge have returned to Pipestem State Park's golf course.
The Division of Natural Resources says park workers have removed trees that blocked the views, including the overlook at the 17th tee.
Park Superintendent Dave Caplinger says many trees were smaller when the park was built in 1970. As the trees grew, the scenic views disappeared.
Some trees also provided too much shade for greens and bunkers.Park workers are planting new trees to increase the age variation of trees on the course and to improve screening and aesthetics between holes. Bunker improvements also are under way.
