In Season

Big game

  • White-tailed deer may be hunted with archery equipment through Dec. 31. The bag limit is one deer per season, two with special permit.
  • Black bears may be hunted with archery equipment through Nov. 17. The bag limit is one bear per season, two in selected counties.
  • Small game

  • Squirrels may be hunted through Jan. 31. The bag limit is six squirrels a day.
  • Upland birds

  • Mourning doves may be hunted through Oct. 6. The bag limit is 15 doves a day.

    Oct. 6

  • The first segment of West Virginia's three-part season for mourning doves will end at sunset.
  • Oct. 7

  • The Putnam County Gun Club will conduct a USPSA pistol match, 10 a.m., at the club's range near Eleanor. Call 304-757-6061.

  • West Virginia's hunting season for raccoons will begin at midnight.
