FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- The superintendent of New River Gorge National River in West Virginia is moving to Alaska.

Don Striker will become superintendent of Denali National Park and Preserve.

Striker tells The Register-Herald that the move is bittersweet for him and his wife, Gretchen. But the superintendent's position at Denali opens up only every 10 or 15 years.

Striker has been superintendent of New River Gorge National River for five years. He says he expects to leave in mid-January.
