N.J. native named head of state Appalachian Trail office

Wendy Janssen has worked management, ranger and planner positions in 11 facilities nationwide, including parks, recreational areas, historical sites and monuments.
The Somerville, N.J., native will take over in March. Pamela Underhill retired from the post in November.
The Journal reports that Janssen's duties will include supervising 10 employees and working closely with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. It maintains the 2,220-mile hiking trail from Georgia to Maine.
Janssen has been superintendent of the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument and the Minidoka National Historical Site in Idaho for the past four years.
In the early 2000s, she was a planner in the Harpers Ferry Interpretive Design Center.
